Thirty-two players arrived at La Marquesa Golf to play in the Annual Captain’s Day Tournament but unfortunately the only omission was the Captain who was unable to play through illness! (Hope to see you soon John.) It was a beautiful spring day, not a cloud in the sky and a pleasant temperature as the players promptly teed off on the front nine and back nine simultaneously. Strangely it was those starting on the back nine who found the pace of play slow at times. The yellow tees were pushed back to their maximum limits which meant the course was playing very long and was bound to be a challenge for everyone but especially middle to high handicappers. If that wasn’t enough, there was a stiff breeze into the players faces on several holes. In effect many of the holes were playing at least a shot harder, and accounted for the fact only one player scored better than par. (L. Jorung 37 points from HCP22) The par threes were often into the breeze and it came as no surprise no one scored a two on any hole. The €32 carry over from Campoamor Golf along with the €34 from today means €66 available at Font Del Llop. From the elevated tee on hole 5, the par three green was playing at 175m and wasn’t threatened by anyone at all from the designated, Gold Category. Pascual, the Course Manager, has significantly improved the course during the past two years. The inclusion of a true water hazard low to the left on hole 5, a attractive water feature protecting Hole 8, various elevated tee boxes around the course and numerous improvements to bunkers around the greens. Reconstruction of the green on hole 13 is well underway. It really has become an excellent course to play! Next Match: Font Del LLop. 17th April. Please pay your memberships to Derek as soon as possible.
